American University of Sovereign Nations is honored to have signed a Academic Cooperation Agreement with Gadjah Mada University. The previous Academic Cooperation Agreement with the Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities at Gadjah Mada University (UGM), was widened to university-wide. UGM is the oldest university in Indonesia, and plays a central role in development of medical curriculum and biomedical sciences and bioethics across Indonesia. UGM is in Yogyakarta, and has 56,000 students and 4 thousand faculty. The first concrete activity of the new agreement was holding a Joint Conference on 3 September 2013 (See the Conferences Section).
There were also discussions on the joint degree programs in Bioethics to enhance the cooperation between the many Peoples and communities of Indonesia and USA, and globally. This builds on the existing close connections between the Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities and Eubios Ethics Institute to develop bioethics education programs across Asia and the Pacific, and especially for developing countries. Professor Darryl Macer, Provost of AUSN, returned to UGM early in 2014 to give training programs for UGM faculty across a range of disciplines in bioethics and applied ethics, and a major joint conference between UGM, AUSN and Eubios Ethics Institute was held in the first week of September 2014 on Looking Beyond Disaster (LBD5).
