Changes in me after I joined AUSN: Had widened my perspective and understanding about bioethics, public health in a multi-disciplinary and transdiciplinary perspective and had appreciated various cultures. I gained the knowledge and degree to teach bioethics. I am currently pursuing my second Ph.D. degree, in Bioethics at AUSN.
Most Interesting facts about AUSN: AUSN provides scholarship to deserving students to provide them the needed knowledge, skills, attitude, experience, competency to make them proficient and more equipped professionally to make the world a better society to live in as it promotes peace and harmony across all nations with no boundaries but working towards a common goal of improving the quality of lives of the people. Advice for new students who will join AUSN? Opportunity being provided by AUSN must be grabbed by all scholars who would like to further enhance their potentials and capabilities. An opportunity to learn from reputable professors led by Prof Darryl Macer. One would learn at the same time enjoy interacting and contributing to the discussions, visit interesting places, increasing its network of scholarly associates and friends and at the same time earning certificates or a degree with good advocacy. Sumaira is Nurse Academic Administrator and Bioethicist by profession. She has worked as of Head of Department Nursing Services and Nursing Education Services at the rank of Senior Instructor and has vast experience of curriculum designing and modifications for novice to expert nurses. Currently, she is working as Founding Principal & Assistant Professor for Saifee Burhani School of Nursing where she has successfully initiated and established School of Nursing and have obtained approval from Pakistan Nursing Council and affiliation from Dow University of Health Sciences for Four year Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree program.She is also Vice-President of the Asian Bioethics Association for Pakistan.
She was a key member of the committee that designed curriculum for Accelerated Master of Science in Nursing Program at one of the prestigious University of Karachi and initiated it after recognition from a national regulatory body. She completed her Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BScN) in 2007 from Aga Khan University School of Nursing. She received her Master of Bioethics (MBeth) in 2010 from Aga Khan University Medical College funded by Fogarty International Centre, NIH USA. Shahanaz Chowdhury, currently working as Assistant Professor & Head Dept. of Community Medicine & Program Coordinator MPH in Community Medicine, Faculty of Public Health at Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS). She has completed MBBS from Sir Salimullah Medical College under Dhaka University in 1996 and MPH in Reproductive and Child Health in 2003 under National Institute of Preventive and Social Sciences (NIPSOM). She has acquired extensive theoretical and practical knowledge on basics of public health issues and public health oriented subjects which helped her to be confident with a strong foundation on research work in the field of public health. From the very beginning of her career, she was highly motivated on research work with a view to contribute to the improvement of existing health service system. Among those researches, eight have been accepted for oral presentation and four have accepted for poster presentation both nationally and internationally. Now she has completed the MBGPH course at American University of Sovereign Nations (AUSN) and so the ethical knowledge and skills in public health issues will enable her to be known as an expert on Bioethics and Global Public Health arena. Ms. Laura Ballantyne-Brodie, LLM, MBGPH, Australia
Laura is an Australian environmental and climate change lawyer, and United Nations “Harmony with Nature” Continental Facilitator for Australia and the Pacific since 2015. Admitted to practice to the Supreme Court of Victoria and High Court of Australia in 2010, Laura holds a Bachelor of Law with Honours and a Bachelor of Arts from Monash University and a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Bioethics. Laura is a visiting research fellow at the American University of Sovereign Nations (US). Laura is passionate about engaging in new conversations on legal education, and public interest lawyering. Laura is a passionate educator, having lectured at New York University and Yale University from 2013-2016 in a course she developed in Disaster Law and Ethics.
As well as working in legal practice in Australia she is a current AUSN PhD student, and in the past worked for orgnaizations including UNESCO.
Dr. Mahmood-uz-Jahan, MBBS, M.D., MBGPH (Bangladeh)
Dr. Mahmood-uz-Jahan is working as a Director, Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC) sine 2013. Before that he worked as a deputy director for three years in tBMRC. He completed his medical graduation (MBBS) from Mymensingh Medical College in affiliation with University of Dhaka and post graduation degree Doctor of Medicine (MD) on Radiology and Imaging from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). He completed his MBGPH degree in 2017.
At BMRC his job is highly involved with research and publication related matters. He has very keen interest to learn about ethics specially biological ethics involving human subjects. In addition he is also working as a member secretary of National Research Ethics Committee (NREC) and Assistant editor of BMRC journal named “BMRC Bulletin”. He believes that ethics is essential for every individual and they also should have a good sense of humor. He has a beautiful wife with three children.

I have completed my bachelor in Dental Surgery [BDS] from Bangladesh and by profession I am a Dental Surgeon. I obtained the degree of Master of Philosophy in Preventive and Social Medicine (M.Phil.- Medical) from National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine (NIPSOM) under University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. In 2013 I successfully completed a post graduate course on new concept in Dental Education and Global Public Health from the department of Global Oral Health, College of Dental Science, University and Medical Centre St Radboud, The Netherlands with full scholarship.
I attended a course in Bioethics from October 2014 - December 2014, conducted by NIH CC Department of Bioethics, USA. From November 03, 2015 to November 08, 2015, I attended the Sixteenth Asian Bioethics Conference the the Philippines, where I graduated with a MBGPH [Master’s program on Bioethics and Global Public Health] by American University of Sovereign Nation with the international scholarship from AUSN and Bangladesh Bioethics Society. From there I got an opportunity to acquire an abundant amount of knowledge regarding Bioethics and Global Public Health and it was an immense opportunity on my part to meet scholars from different part of the world.
Currently I am working as an Associate Professor and Head, Department of Dental Public Health in City Dental College, Dhaka, Bangladesh. I am on the Editorial Board as one of the Associate Editors for publishing a professional Dental and Medical Journal, published from City Dental College, Dhaka. My research interest focuses on Dental public health, Preventive Dentistry and Bioethics.
In 2015 I have been elected the Vice President of Bangladesh Dental Society, the apex professional body of the dental surgeons of Bangladesh. Presently I am also working as an Organizing Secretary of Oral Pathology and Periodontology Association of Bangladesh. I am a life member of Bangladesh Bioethics Association. I served as the Announcer of the SAARC [South Asian Region Conference] Dental Association Federation in 1995. I was awarded as the ‘Best Master of the Ceremony’ of the 1st International Dental Conference in Bangladesh in 2001.

Andrew Bosworth, PhD, BA, MA, (Canada/Thailand)
Andrew recently completed his PhD at AUSN. He previously earned a BA in international relations from Mahidol University International College, in Thailand, and an MA in sustainable peace from the University for Peace, in Costa Rica. His professional career included work in agriculture and finance. He previously published on issues of biodiversity, peace and non-duality. He has previously been part of the UNESCO Ethics of Climate Change in Asia-Pacific project as first author of a book published by UNESCO on “Ethics and Biodiversity”.
He is most at home in nature, preferably temperate rain-forests. His biggest fear are bears, and his favorite animals are bears. He still enjoys literature and philosophy. He looks forward to a slower tempo in life watching his children and his plants grow tall and strong, and multiplying in accordance with a healthy environment in Canada. He enjoys new friends, good music, and continuously flowing motion.

Changes in me after I joined AUSN: I was able to learn interrelationship of disciplines such as bioethics, environmental science, global public health, biotechnology, science and technology. I was also able to learn diversity of mankind and living things in general culminating in one planet one people because “We are not all the same but we are all equal”
Most interesting facts about AUSN: The flexibility of the lectures which made it possible for busy individuals to still acquire new knowledge. More so, the fact that I am living in Australia gives me the advantage of attending the class at night instead of day time like some other students. It was also avenue to meet and make new global friends.
Advice for new students who will join AUSN? My advice is that new students should see attending AUSN as an opportunity to gain new knowledge in relation to society and science. Most Interesting Facts about AUSN: The teamwork is a hallmark of the university. No one is above anyone else. Everyone unites in making all AUSN persons become a better people. Each person is seen and valued as an important pillar of the university. They are always ready to help and support each other the best way they can. Also, the professors do not teach out of a textbook. They teach from their personal experiences and knowledge.
Advice for new students who will join AUSN? Work hard, get as much experience as you can from the professors. They are not textbook teachers, but they can add a lot to your personality and career.

Ananya is General Manager of Eubios Ethics Institute and of the International Peace and Development Ethics Centre, Kaeng Krachan, Thailand. She is a Thai citizen and graduated from both the CCP and Masters in Bioethics and Global Public Health (MBGPH) Programmes of American University of Sovereign Nations (AUSN), United States of America. She is a AUSN Senior Research Fellow and a member of the Board of Governors.
Ananya's Masters thesis was on “Fortune Telling as Mental Health Support”. She previously had a M.S. Population and Development from the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), Thailand, and a B.A. in Personal Management from Rajabhat Suan Sunanta University in Thailand. She was among the first batch of AUSN graduates, completing the Postgraduate Certificate in Community and Peace (CCP).
Professionally she worked for 10 years in HRM in AIS telecommunications and 6 years for Acer Computers, and is Assistant to the Managing Director of Essilor Distribution (Thailand) Co.,Ltd. Ananya has been researching various issues of bioethics from a cross-cultural perspective. Ananya is also assisting in the Youth Peace Ambassadors International programme for several years. Mr. Sol Erwin G. Diaz (the Philippines) BA, B.Law, MA, Ph.D., CCP (2015)
Sol is a one of the pioneer graduates of the American University of Sovereign Nation’s (AUSN) Post Graduate Certificate in Community and Peace. He is currently enrolled in the AUSN Master of Bioethics and Global Public Health. He was n the first Secretary of the AUSN Alumni Association. He is from the Philippines and he came to know AUSN when he attended the 9th Youth Peace Ambassador (YPA) Training Workshop held in AUSN, Scottsdale, Arizona last August 2014. He also participated in the 10th YPA held in Purwokerto, Indonesia and received his award being a Youth Peace Ambassador.
He is a teacher and is also currently working as a Legislator of one of the Barangay in Iligan City, Philippines. He was so grateful of the combination program of the AUSN (online/onsite study program) as he was able to finish according to his learning pace the concepts, theories, and practices of PEACE and BIOETHICS. Why I choose to study at AUSN?I was introduced to AUSN by Bangladesh Bioethics Society, of which I am an international member. Because of that I can continue to pursue my aspiration of studying Bioethics, even when I moved to United Kingdom from India.
Changes in me after I joined AUSN: Being enrolled in AUSN for MBGPH course enabled me to widen and enhance my knowledge of Bioethics as an interdisciplinary subject. Most Interesting facts about AUSN: The most interesting fact about AUSN is that Prof. Macer keeps an eye on each and every student’s progress. I love the intensive courses that AUSN conducts, from time to time, and we get to interact with more and more people in person. I had a long standing positive relationship with Dr. Darryl Macer and Eubios Ethics Institute through the Youth Peace Ambassadors and Youth Looking Beyond Disaster networks (where I serve on the Board of Governors).
Changes in me after I joined AUSN: After joining AUSN I learnt how to deal with criticism in a positive way in my life, and to benefit from deeper analytical skills that rigorous study and debates in class. Although I was often quite in such debates, I could learn how to reason based on evidence and logic. And I became a more optimistic person. I could learn about wisdom from many different sources of knowledge.
Most Interesting facts about AUSN: I love the international conferences that AUSN holds. These gave me an opportunity to see the world and meet new people from many ethnicities and view points. I also had the chance to help co-organize some conferences in my home country, and in the USA, which can inspire many new leaders. For me the most interesting lecture was the session in the Grand Canyon, where we learnt about Environmental Ethics, with magnificent scenery.
Advice for new students who will join AUSN? New interested students will be make many international friends and these can help host you when will you visit their country, and vice versa. You will get more out of AUSN than you put in, and you can really benefit from being part of AUSN.

Thesis: Desires of Parents regarding Gender of Children: Study of a Village in Northern Bangladesh
Why I choose to study at AUSN? I am particularly interested in gender and environment related research issues. I met Prof. Darryl Macer in 1999 at University of Tsukuba, Japan, when I was a PhD student, carrying out research on supplying safe drinking water to the arsenic-hit population in Bangladesh under the supervision of Professor Yoshiro Higano. Then I became interested in the multidisciplinary nature of bioethics and took part in the Sixth and Seventh International Tsukuba Bio-ethics Roundtable held in 2000 and 2002 respectively. Even after I returned to Bangladesh, achieving my PhD degree from University of Tsukuba in 2003, I kept contact with Professor Darryl Macer and was involved with Bangladesh Bioethics Society (BBS) since its inception in 2009. Currently I am a life member and a Vice President of BBS. I joined the MBGPH degree (Combination/Hybrid Program) from AUSN in 2015, and completed the degree in 2016.
Changes in me after I joined AUSN: I became more aware about environmental degradation and try to be as environment-friendly as possible.
Most interesting facts about AUSN: I enjoyed this mode of study where I was able to interact directly (through Skype) with intellectuals all around the world sitting at home. As I study and teach sociology, going through the MBGPH program helped me significantly in connecting scientific issues to various social phenomena.
Advice for new students who will join AUSN? My advice to the new students is that they should try to grasp the materials taught as much as possible and enjoy the multidisciplinary nature of the program.

Changes in me after I joined AUSN: I gained more knowledge in bioethics, sustainability and health relating it to my fields of specialization along environment, disaster management and social sciences. Our visit to other countries and places widened my understanding on society and culture thus sharing it with my students in the Philippines. I also gained more confidence in dealing with others and appreciate people across borders. I am more inspired personally and professionally. I will forever be grateful and proud in joining AUSN and dream of becoming part of its pool of faculty.
Most Interesting facts about AUSN: AUSN provides wide opportunity for its students to study the global community. The Administration is composed of competent, reliable and knowledgeable leaders who share unlimited ideas among the students. Professors are very friendly and provide more than enough attention, motivation and encouragements to students to continue studying for career growth. The teaching approaches and methodologies used are very appropriate, desirable and acceptable for professional learners like me. The hands on and must see learning experiences on the study of peace, culture, community and the like are looked forward by the students to join a lot of activities.
Advice for new students who will join AUSN? Be a global leader! Don’t miss the opportunity of being an AUSN student. Hasan ERBAY, MD, PhD, MBGPH (Turkey)
Hasan Erbay is currently working as Assistant Professor and Head at Dept. History of Medicine and Medical Ethics at Afyon Kocatepe University, Faculty of Medicine in Turkey. He graduated from the Inonu University as MD in 2004. He worked as an ambulance physician in prehospital emergency services (namely 112 in Turkey) and different emergency services for seven years. He completed his PhD degree in History of Medicine and Medical Ethics at Cukurova University, Adana, in 2012. His primary interests are emergency medicine (especially prehospital) and it's ethical aspects and ethics education. He is the member of clinical research ethical committe and the training officer who is responsible for every phase of medical education process for first year students of medical faculty at the university. Additionaly, he is the advisor of Kocatepe TurkMSIC which is the local representative of IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students Association). He represented the field of medical ethics at the "Commission for National Medical Education Curriculum for Turkey" in 2014. Erbay is a member of Turkish Bioethics Association and Asian Bioethics Association, at all.
He thinks that it is a great opportunity for him to improve and enlarge the point of view in the field of bioethics and public health issues in global perspective through the MBGPH course at American University of Sovereign Nations (AUSN). Hasan is an AUSN faculty member now also.
